| November 11, 2015

selling your homeOne of the biggest issues facing a house sale or purchase to that matter is the associated fees. From the estate agent (or realtor) to the costs of photography, listing your property and any necessary home improvements, the combined bills that get pieced together can amount to an eye watering figure.

To avoid being stung with a variety of costs, we’ve spoken to property experts, Jet Homes to find out what the secrets are to saving a little money when selling your home.

Negotiate your fees

A lot of people feel that they can’t negotiate what they think is a fixed cost, that’s right, the house selling fee, but who’s to say you can’t? Actually negotiating your fees is quite common and it can take place in a few different ways.

Some homeowners opt to sell their residence without a real estate agent to get around paying a commission and make more of the profit. Forty-eight percent of people who sell without a real estate agent think that if they sell …

Firstly you could do it based on time to sell your property. For example, you could negotiate that if the house were sold within four weeks of placing it on the market, you would pay full fee then subsequently for every week or two weeks after that period, the fee reduces.

Secondly, it could be done based on the value that your home actually sells for; so if the price has been driven down significantly from your starting price, you could negotiate a reduction in fee to mirror the loss on equity.

Hire your own photographer

Not only can you save money, but you can hire people that are specialists in this area, for not a lot of money and that will do a fantastic job when it comes to really showing off your home.

Just remember, the biggest thing about photography is that it can break or make your home sale, so you want to really hire someone who knows what they’re doing.

Online listing

Did you know that the most common method of house views today take place on the internet? Well, if you did, well done, but did you also know you can list your house, solely on the internet and save a little bit of money through these kinds of property agents. That’s correct, there is no printed version of your home available, just a digital one.

One of the biggest tips we can advise here is the actual marketing of the online listing. With these kinds of agents, they will ask for a specific fee for e-shots and any social advertising. Firstly, these can be negotiated, see above; but secondly, and most importantly, these can be done by yourself at no cost.
