Moving to a new country is a difficult experience for many. They have a limited grasp of the language, have problems forming connections with others and experience problems finding a job and supporting their families. Thanks to some new programs, new immigrants can get the help that they need. They can take courses designed for their particular situation. Those courses give them a better understanding of the language, which can help them find a job, a place to live and even some new friends.

Types of Programs and Courses

The types of courses for new immigrants in Canada vary from school to school. Many students enroll in programs that lead them towards citizenship. The classes teach them what the country looks for in new citizens and how they can apply for citizenship. Students work closely with teachers and other students to ensure that they prepare themselves properly for the process. Students can also take classes to give them a better grasp of English or French and how to read, write and talk with others in that language. There are also programs designed for immigrants to teach them a specific job skill.

Is Financial Aid Available?

Many countries limit financial aid solely to those living in that country and those who pay taxes. Canadian law is slightly different. Some schools have financial aid packages available for those who recently moved to the country. These packages can include a combination of grants, scholarships and loans. Loans range in size from a few hundred dollars to thousands and dollars, and you’ll typically need to pay back the amount you borrow plus any interest after you graduate. Scholarships and grants are free money that you can use to pay for your schooling or any educational costs that you face, and students do not pay back grants or scholarships.

How to Apply

You can easily apply for an immigration program through the Academy of Learning College and other online or offline schools. Most schools ask that you pass an English as a Second Language test that shows you have a firm understanding of the English language, and some schools may also ask for employment verification records. You may need to submit proof that you attended college as well. Once you complete the full application for admission, the school will notify you if you qualify and when you can start your classes.
