Internet offers endless opportunities for people looking to make some part-time (or full-time) income. Depending on your skills, experience, expertise, and the time you can invest, you can earn anything between some extra cash to four or five-figure income while working from home.

For starters, you can launch a blog, and spend an hour or two on writing on your favorite topics, while earning via Adsense or sponsored ads. In case you are not interested in setting up, updating, or optimizing a blog on regular basis, you can go for freelance content writing, where you can write an article or blog post every now and then, and get paid straight away. In case you are not interested in writing, you can find other jobs, or you can drop the idea of working for others, and simply launch an online store of your own.

But doesn’t matter if you are looking to work part-time or starting a full-fledged business, you will need to have a proper workspace or small office at home, so that you can focus on work without getting distracted. If you are lucky enough, you might already have a separate study area that you can turn into an office by getting a computer table and chair. But in case you don’t have a spare room, it can be a tad expensive to build a new one. Plus, not everybody has the extra space to construct a new room.

If you are looking to work from home and you don’t have a dedicated space to work, following are some practical tips to help you set up a home office on the cheap.

Look out for a vacant space:

Take a look around, and see if there’s a vacant space or rarely used area like basement, garage, or a store that is not serving any real purpose. If the answer is in yes, then you can simply clean up that place, set up some additional source of lighting, and get yourself a computer table and chair, and you will have your own office in next to no time.

Loft Conversion:

As earlier suggested, not everybody have a spare room, space, or funds to construct a room. If that’s the case, you can try converting your loft into a small dormer style room. Many homes (especially in UK) have lofts or attics that can be converted into living space. Loft conversion is quite cheap as compared to building a new concrete room, and working from a loft room is better than the basement or garage.

Use Divider:

Remember that you don’t need an entire room to work. If you have got a big hall or lounge, you can simply use a divider, curtain, or a temporary wall to get yourself a small office in one corner. The idea is to have a secluded space where you wouldn’t be getting distracted with all the happenings and activities going around, and a temporary wall or a divider can give you that privacy.

Get Used Furniture:

Once you have got some private space, the next big expense is going to be the furniture. But again you don’t need lots of furniture or equipment for a simple home office. In most cases, all you will need is a computer table and chair or maybe a writing desk. Computer table and chair wouldn’t cost you much, but you can always go for used furniture to further slash the expenses.
