Budget

With the shorter days of winter passing and with springtime right around the corner, there is no better time to check over your home and create a springtime budget for home repairs.

Winter storms have passed, and this makes for a great time to inspect your home.

This article goes over a number of places that need an annual inspection. After inspection, forming a budget is the next step.

Clean the Downspouts and Gutters

Once the last frost of the year has passed, it is a great idea to check over downspouts and gutters.

During the wintertime, gutters have become clogged and the downspouts are no longer working properly.

This clogging can cause issues with wood trim and can lead to rotting.

When the wood rots, this creates an opportunity for wildlife to find a way into attic spaces and more.

Once gutters are cleaned, be sure to check that water is running away from the home with no issues.

Stain the Woodwork

Fences, trellises, railings, pergolas, wooden deck, and any outdoor structure goes through wear and tear during the winter months.

It is a great idea to stain these fixtures no less than bi-annually. Sometimes these fixtures also need repairs and this is the perfect time to make any needed updates.

Check the Roof

Winter weather can cause damage to roofs and sometimes a roof may need to be replaced completely.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to actually climb up on the roof to inspect it.

The overall goal is to inspect the roof for missing shingles and other damaged areas.

If missing shingles or any odd-looking area is found, it is best to call a professional roofer to complete the roofing repair.

Inspect the Air-Conditioner

With winter ending and warmer days on the horizon, it is a great idea to have the air-conditioning unit inspected and repaired if needed.

Be sure to call a professional who can replace dirty filters, check all air ducts, and ensure the system is working properly.

This article has gone over some of the problem areas that might need updating or repairs in your home.

Be sure to check over and address these areas and create a budget that will work to fix the issues.

If any of the updates are complicated or dangerous, be sure to hire the correct professional to work with.
