energybulbAs a homeowner, it’s wise to keep an eye on the cost of your utility bills, keeping on top of the latest government initiatives that you may be eligible to sign up for to help save you money in the long run. Take the British Gas Green Deal, for example. The Green Deal for domestic properties was launched in October 2012 and aims to help homeowners to afford energy efficient home improvements that they would ordinarily avoid due to the initial outlay that they require. Improving your home isn’t the cheapest aspect of owning a house, particularly when it includes big jobs. In the long run, homeowners will see a marked improvement in their energy bills but it’s just not plausible when you don’t have the financial backing.

This is where the Green Deal comes in. Take a look at how it works below and consider signing up for the initiative to make a more energy efficient you.

Home improvements that are included in the deal vary and depend, largely, on your personal circumstances. Loft and cavity wall insulation are popular choices, while double glazing and underfloor cladding are also available, among others.

To be part of the deal, you have to agree to an initial assessment being conducted, which will rate your current home efficiency and also make any suggestions about what improvements could be made. The assessor will also offer advice on how you can improve your energy consumption, which can often be the smallest things such as changing the light bulbs and turning off your appliances at the mains after use.

Of course, this all comes at a cost, which is provided by the Green Deal Finance Company. Once the assessment is complete, you will receive a Green Deal Plan which you can then take to a provider who will organise the necessary installations. Once installed, the energy savings that the new products make to your monthly bills will be used to pay back the loan. It’s as simple as that!

If you would like to see an improvement on your monthly energy consumption, the Green Deal would be an excellent initiative to be considered. Plus, your planet will thank you for it!
