Easy Ways to Boost Your Curb Appeal

| April 11, 2019

Are you trying to sell your house? Tired of looking out the window at an ugly, drab yard? Embarrassed to invite guests over because you think your home looks uninviting? Maybe you’re retiring, and looking to downsize.

Or you’ve been having trouble selling your home, even though it’s gorgeous on the inside. Did you know that most interested buyers make their decision on whether or not they’re interested in a house before they even step foot inside?

This is why curb appeal is so important. You need to make a real impact on your guests or potential buyers from the moment they pull up and see your home. Looking for a few easy ways to instantly boost your curb appeal?

Tidy up

Maybe your yard isn’t really ugly, it’s just messy or sloppy. This is the easiest fix, and the first place that you should start!

Washing windows, pulling weeds, and getting rid of any clutter, yard tools, or debris in your yard will make a big impact on how your home looks.

No one can see the charm it has if it’s overrun with weeds. You could also consider power washing the siding of your home as well, to clean it up and improve the appearance without having to paint.

A little bit of paint goes a long way

Curb AppealBut speaking of paint, painting will make a huge impact on the appearance of your home. You don’t have to paint the entire exterior of your home, but maybe paint your front door or garage door.

Give your fence another coat of paint. Anything that is looking dingy and worn down will look immediately better with just a little bit of paint.

Consider your landscaping

Your landscape is important, there’s no getting around it. Is your grass worn down and brown? Are your plants dying?

Greenery is a huge selling point, and some things, such as trees, can actually increase the value of your home.

Go through your lawn and treat it for weeds, reseed any dead areas, and set up a watering schedule so it doesn’t die.

Make sure to schedule time to water your lawn and other plants regularly, to keep them looking their best.

A sprinkler or irrigation system can be set up so you don’t have to worry about it and can keep your lawn looking nice.

Clean up your gutters

Curb AppealMessy gutters not only are unsightly, but they can cause serious damage to your home if they aren’t cleaned up!

It’s a pretty easy job to take care of, just climb up on your ladder and clean everything out.

Add or update your porch light

Light is important for your home, and the hassle of adding a porch light if there already isn’t one is enough to deter some home buyers.

If you don’t have one, you may want to consider installing one. If you already do have one, swap it out for a newer and brighter light.

This is also a safety concern for a lot of people, so having a porch light will have your guests feeling safer when they leave your home in the evening.

Swap out your mailbox

A new mailbox will cost you maybe $25, but replacing a beat up box will instantly lift the entire look of your home.

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but just something new and obviously not worn down will score you major curb appeal points.

Upgrade your house numbers

Are your numbers hard to read, or maybe just really difficult to find? New house numbers aren’t expensive, and you can replace them in a more convenient location, so your porch light shines onto them.

This is especially helpful if your home has had additions added onto it since it was originally built, and the original entrance to your home is no longer the main entrance.

Updating and moving your numbers(as long as they stay on the right side of the house) can eliminate confusion and make your home easier to find.
