Saving While Playing Casino Games?

Can you save money and play online casino games at the same time? Well, it depends… if you are a compulsive games, the only way you can save money is to avoid all things even remotely similar to gambling. If you are playing for fun, you can save money by choosing a casino that offers you the possibility to play their games free of charge, preferably even without requiring you to create an account (yes, there are some).

Playing online casino games for real money is not a way to save money – instead it means a chance to make some extra income every once in a while. ‘Chance’ is the keyword here – casino games are mostly “games of chance’, with their outcome being only influenced by mathematical probabilities (or, in laymen’s terms, luck). Some games offer their players a higher chance to win, like blackjack or Casino War, for example, while others don’t.

For me the only game that counts as a rather secure way of making an extra buck is blackjack – it is one of the cheapest casino games, it offers rather decent payouts (not as spectacular as roulette, but much safer). Also, it is one of the few games available at casinos that can be played using a basic strategy, allowing the player to take decisions for maximizing the chances of a win.

What is the basic strategy? Well, if you know how to play blackjack, skip this next paragraph.

Blackjack is a simple card game, played with various numbers of standard 52 card decks. I say decks, because – depending on the house rules – the game can be played with between 1 and 8 card decks. The goal of the game is to form a hand of 21 points or lower (anything over means ‘bust’, or losing the hand). The best possible hand is an Ace and a face card (21 points, blackjack), that pays 2 to 1, or 3 to 2, depending on the house rules. A winning hand pays even money (1 to 1).

The basic strategy offers tips and hints about when to hit, when to stand and when to surrender. I won’t describe it in this article – there are so many blackjack strategy guides out there, there is no use in writing another one. The important thing is that if basic strategy is used, the chances of winning more hands at the blackjack table grow considerably. Still, blackjack is a game of chance – keep aware of that. Using the strategy doesn’t guarantee anything.

I like to play my rounds of blackjack at the Royal Vegas online casino, an old and reliable operation I keep visiting quite often. I usually play the classic, European version of the game, but there are many more variants available at the casino, at the player’s discretion. Sometimes, when I feel like playing for fun, I don’t log on – I play the demo version of the game available on the website.
