If you are looking for a different holiday for your family then why not try a sailing holiday? This holiday will suit experienced sailors as well as novices and whatever the age of your children they are bound to love the sense of adventure and freedom that this sort of holiday provides.

Type of charter
When you have decided to embark on a sailing holiday it is important that you do your research as there are different types of charter available. For those with some experience of sailing then there is the option to charter a sailing yacht which you will sail and crew yourself. Older children will love the idea of being part of the ‘crew’ and it will provide a great experience for them. One of the benefits of this sort of charter is that you can plan the route and decide where and when you moor as long as you return the boat to the agreed place on the agreed date.

If you have little or no experience of sailing then it is possible to hire a skipper for the boat you are chartering for your sailing vacation. This is the perfect happy medium for those who have little or no experience of sailing but who want the freedom of chartering a boat. If you are slightly more experienced and just need a refresher then you could hire a skipper for the first few days of a charter just to help ease you into it.

If you are looking for some luxury on your holiday then there is the option to charter an all inclusive crewed yacht for your sailing vacation. This means that you and your family will have to do very little, other than to decide your route and then sit back and enjoy the scenery as the on-board crew of captain and chef will tend to your every need. The final option to consider is a powerboat charter which means that you and your family will be able to travel from place to place quickly and in style.

Things to bear in mind when travelling with children
Whenever you are holidaying with children then there are some practical issues for you to consider before you travel. Unless you are travelling with toddlers or pre-schoolers, you will probably need to travel during school holidays and bookings at that time of year will always be in high demand so it is best to book early.

You will also need to consider the distance you want to travel. Long journeys with children of any age can be stressful so bear this in mind when you are deciding where to go. Finally the weather also has to be a consideration, particularly if you are planning to travel during the summer months. It is a good idea to research what the weather is supposed to be like in your chosen destination before you book.

So whether you are an experienced sailor, a keen novice or if you are looking for the ultimate relaxing holiday then there is a type of sailing holiday for you. The freedom and sense of adventure that this sort of holiday can provide is unparalleled and could truly be the trip of a lifetime for you and your family.
