costa-del-sol-1Many of us have had to tighten our belts over the last couple of years, but that doesn’t have to mean all dreams of a week or two in sun have to slip away.  There are many affordable destinations out there, suitable for those looking for some sun and a way to save cash. Here is our guide to the best holidays on a budget.

Costa del Sol

With its soft white sands and glistening blue waters, the Costa del Sol has a lot to offer for those wanting to splash about without splashing out. Visit the traditional town of Nerja with its local markets, friendly hotels and traditional restaurants lining the beachfront, making it a perfect, quiet family destination. Watch the chefs cook freshly caught fish and prepare perfect paella in front of your eyes while you enjoy an ice-cold glass of sangria.

The Costa del Sol is brimming with picturesque villages, such as Frigiliana with its whitewashed buildings and cobbled streets, set in the heart of the mountains.

Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is one of the seven Spanish Canary Islands, just off the north-west coast of Africa. Famous for its breathtaking beaches, this island is ideal for those wanting a relaxing break in the sun, without breaking the bank. Package holidays to Fuerteventura can often save you money as well as time as they include flights, hotels and transfers booked all at once.

Algarve

Situated in southern Portugal, The Algarve is the perfect family holiday destination. With water parks and zoos for the kids, and boat trips and sightseeing for the adults, there is something for everyone. Visit the Ria Formosa national park for blue lagoons, wildlife, sandy beaches and pine woodland.

Lanzarote

Suitable for people of all ages due to its diversity, Lanzarote offers bar-lined beaches and traditional towns. Sample fresh fish platters in the beach restaurants or indulge in the wide range of water sports on offer, including banana boats and scuba diving – perfect for cooling down in the midday heat. Tour buses offer trips around the Island, stopping at famous destinations such as Jameos del Aqua, a tropical garden and blue pool, and Cueva de los Verdes, a warren of caves situated in a protected area of the Island, which aren’t to be missed!

Venice, Italy

Beach holidays aren’t the only budget option this summer, so why not consider a city break to somewhere such as Venice? Winding canals and traditional Italian cuisine are what make this city so unique. Explore the side streets and sip coffee in one of the cafes, watching the world go by. And of course you can’t visit Venice without sampling a crisp, stone-baked pizza or a bowl of fresh bolognaise.
